Peter Mac Parkville Shed
The Melbourne Men’s Shed at Parkville (Peter Mac Shed) is the first Men’s Shed in a Victorian hospital precinct offering men, their families, and friends an opportunity to meet, gather and learn with others undergoing or caring for someone with an illness or disease.
In response to the lack of help-seeking behavior demonstrated by men, the concept of a hospital precinct Men’s Shed was proposed as a practical way to engage vulnerable men.
The Peter Mac Shed aims to reduce social isolation, improve wellbeing, and create an environment where men can share experiences and be supported. With the goal of reducing health disparities, especially social isolation, and poor mental health. Membership of the shed has now been extended to include patients and careers from the other major hospitals in the Parkville precinct.
